LEADERSHIP
Student leadership involves giving students opportunities to
practice a range of leadership skills in a supportive, learning and
social environment where success and errors are processed and
reflected upon. Leaders are required to communicate well, engage in
critical thinking, lead groups in problem solving and
planning.
The framework within Colaiste Chiarain provides opportunities
and experiences that facilitate our student's transition from
school life into the community and beyond into the world of
work and adult responsibility.
GLUAIS
Gluais is a voluntary organisation working with
Transition Year Students in schools in Ballyfermot, Clondalkin,
Lucan and Leixlip. Gluais aims to teach young people leadership
skills which they can then take back to their schools and use for
the benefit of their entire school.
Gluais Students undertake an intensive 5 day
training course where they engage in a variety of exercises with
their trainers, most of whom are former Gluais Students
themselves.
Beyond the 5 day training course, Gluais
Students then return to their schools as the "Gluais Group" for the
following school year. During this time the students will organise
a variety of activities designed to assist their fellow students
and the school in general. From helping 1st year students to fit
in, to organising bus shelters outside their schools, the flow of
creative energy from Gluais Groups never ceases to amaze the
leaders involved and as such has been a huge stimulus for the
growth and evolution of the organisation over the past 15
years.

GAISCE
Gaisce - the President’s Award is Ireland’s National
Challenge Award, the country’s most prestigious and respected
individual award programme, and a challenge from the President of
Ireland, to young people between 15 and 25 years of
age.
The President’s Award works on the basis of a
personal challenge set by you. You will set the
challenge and agree it with a President’s Award leader. You won’t
be competing with other participants, as each challenge is
completely individual… so the only person you’ll compete with is
yourself.
The Award programme is open to all young people between the
ages of 15 and 25. Anyone can take part as long as you’re
self-motivated and up to the challenge.
