To represent ones country in any sport is a wonderful honour and a tremendous personal achievement. Competing at the highest level requires commitment, dedication, discipline, sacrifice and a lot of hard work.
Coláiste Chiaráin is extremely proud of our students both past and present who have at some stage in their sporting career represented Ireland across a wide variety of sports.
He took part in the WAKO Junior World Championships in Serbia 2010.
Alex won the CIMAC World Cup,London, in the Adult category and took a bronze medal in the Junior, in July 2011.

Discipline – K1 Sprint 500m & 1000m

Finished seventh in the 500 metres and 13th in the 1,000 metres,
which is an Olympic event for men in London. He successfully came
through his heats and was third fastest in the semi-finals. This
was the second time ever that an Irish K1 canoeist qualified for an
A final at a top level international event.

David Matthews is one ofIreland’s most successful middle distance athletes. He representedIrelandin theAtlanta(1996) andSydney(2000) Olympic Games. David also competed in 7 World Championships and European Championships.

Irish medal-winning sprinter who specialized in the 400 metres and began racing over 800 metres in 2007.
He finished seventh at the 2002 World Junior Championships inKingstonand fifth at the 2003 IAAF World Indoor Championships inBirmingham. He won the bronze medal in 4 x 400 metres relay at the 2004 World Indoor Championships

Discipline – K1 Sprint 500m & 5000m
Jenny Egan set a new national record and took 14th overall in the K1 500 metres at the European Canoe Sprint Championships inBelgradein June 2011. Egan’s time in the heat of one minute 55.9 seconds was a personal best and qualified her for the semi-finals, where she finished eighth.
Won a silver medal in the K1 (racing kayak) 5,000 metre (non Olympic distance) event at the World Cup Kayak Sprint regatta
Jenny Egan became the first canoeist to be awarded The Irish Times/Irish Sports Council 'Sportswoman of the Month' award in May 2011.
